Description
Cultural, biochemical and molecular biological methods are used to detect micro-organisms in medical microbiology. The equipment and/or devices are, for example, nutrient media for cultivation, mass spectrometry using MALDI-TOF or even PCR for the detection of aetiologically relevant bacteria and other pathogens.
The microbiology module aids the laboratory in detecting, recording and evaluating these pathogens from human specimens (for example, swabs, saliva samples, urine samples, etc.) as quickly and efficiently as possible. The processing can be largely automated by following a comprehensive set of rules, e.g. for blood samples, for instance.
The specific features of Medat microbiology include the automated generation of ICD codes based on the existing material-microbe-pathogen-resistance combination. The codes can also be generated for all types of findings.
Furthermore, Medat offers an automated MRGN / VRE / MRSA classification. A wide range of material-microbe-pathogen-resistance combinations can be tested and the resulting classification applied to the microbe.
Notifiable findings can be reported directly to the competent public health authority by various transmission methods using a postcode location file created by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).
