The corona pandemic is still omnipresent in Germany. Medat laboratory information system works together with our customers to counter current challenges.
The long-standing Medat customer “Labor Koblenz” has been working to the limit for almost a year due to the corona tests. Now the employees of the laboratory are facing a new major challenge: new, highly infectious mutations of the virus.
Mutations can now be detected much faster by using PCR tests. What used to take up to five days now takes around 24 hours. 44 mutations were found in 574 cases, 41 times the English variant and three times the variants from Brazil / South Africa.
The new mutation PCR method saves the researchers in our laboratories a great deal of time compared to genome sequencing. The medical director of the microbiology of the “Labor Koblenz”, Dr. Thomas Mertes, is convinced that the PCR test helps to prevent the further spread of the corona variants.
